The Little Mermaid

Denmark’s world-famous sculpture

After seeing the ballet Den lille Havfrue (The Little Mermaid) featuring Ellen Price de Plane in the title part, Carl Jacobsen decided to commission a statue of a mermaid to be placed at the entrance to Copenhagen Harbour. The task was handed to sculptor Edvard Eriksen. The sculpture was installed at Langelinie on 23 August 1913.
